Wheatgrass Juicers
The nature of wheatgrass is such that it must be juiced for one
to fully benefit from the wide range of nutrients it can provide.
The plant in its raw form is too fibrous to consume and digest.
Therefore, a juicer must be used to extract this nutrient-rich juice
hailed by the health-conscious as one of Mother Nature’s super
foods. But not just any juicer will do.
Fruit and vegetable juicers grate and tear fibers to draw out
the juice. They operate at too quick a speed to efficiently juice
a tougher plant like wheatgrass. Therefore, you need a juicer especially
designed to juice wheatgrass.
Wheatgrass juicers operate at a slower speed than regular juicers
do for two reasons. The first is to ensure the wheatgrass is thoroughly
pressed and squeezed to release every last drop of its precious
juice. The second reason is to reduce the amount of heat the juice
is exposed to, as heat can compromise the nutritional value of the
juice by oxidizing its nutrients.
When it comes to types of wheatgrass juicers, you have two choices:
the manual
wheatgrass juicer and the electric
wheatgrass juicer.
Manual wheatgrass juicers are designed with a handle you need to
turn as you feed the wheatgrass through. The pulp left behind can
easily be re-fed into the juicer so that not a single drop of juice
is wasted. Electric wheatgrass juicers operate in much the same
way, but with less physical effort on your part. There are no handles
to turn, tubes are self-feeding, and pulp is continuously expelled
for easier re-feeding.
